Description

The Steam Generator Blowdown (SGBD) system in a nuclear power plant treats the blowdown water from steam generators to meet chemical specifications for recirculation to the main condenser or for discharge. Historically, the steam generator blowdown treatment system employed a combination of precision filters and non-regenerable ion exchange resin vessels. To avoid the high replacement costs associated with single-use nuclear-grade ion exchange resins, IONTECH has developed Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) membrane stacks tailored to the operating conditions of the Steam Generator Blowdown (SGBD) treatment system.

The EWT-CDISGBD membrane stack utilizes IONTECH’s patented high-temperature resistant Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) technology. It can operate continuously at temperatures up to 60°C and pressures of 7 bar (100 psi), delivering high-quality product water without leakage, and is capable of tolerating commonly used corrosion inhibitors and chemical reducing agents employed for regulating water chemistry in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR).
